BRIEFING

Funding boost for schools project

The latest schools to benefit from PA Training's Media Centre Experience project have completed their newspaper.

Youngsters from Howden and Vermuyden schools collaborated to produce the eight-page paper thanks to funding from the regional development Agency Yorkshire Forward.

The schools, which are located near PA's base in Howden, East Yorkshire, worked for six weeks to produce stories and pictures for their paper called VH xchange.

They then spent two days working in our Bishop's Manor training centre working on the same Macs used to train real journalists.

Organiser Emma Bean, of East Riding Learning Partnership, said: "The editors took real leadership of their team and there was a real buzz around the room as stories were being selected and articles finalised."

During their visit to PA, students went on a tour of the operations centre which is home to the ITV Teletext service, PA sport and Entertainment departments and a new state-of-the-art TV studio.

The cost of the project was covered through funding from Yorkshire Forward, the regional development agency for the East Riding area.

"The experience has shown two schools in real collaboration. It has been great to see the young people working together in this way."
