BRIEFING
Interviewing skills DVD launch
Press Association Training has launched a DVD that offers reporters guidance on the dos and don’ts of interviewing.

Called The Reporter from Hell, the light-hearted journalism training aid is a must for anyone running courses teaching people how to become journalists.
The DVD shows a fictional interview by a regional newspaper reporter with a lottery winner.
It shows how possibly the world’s worst reporter has a go at getting the details from the winner, who turns out to be in mourning for a family member.
Shot in three sections, trainee reporters are asked to analyse his efforts after each part and critique what he does wrong.
Paul Jones, head of foundation training at Press Association Training, who hosts the DVD, said: “Interviewing is one of the fine arts of journalism. Some reporters you send out on a job and you know they will come back with the whole story.
“Others might return with key facts missing and important questions unanswered.
“This production aims to show how reporters can use simple devices to get the best story possible from the time they spend talking to their subjects.”
